Trafigura Launches Volare Shipping With $500 Million Oslo Listing Plan

Trafigura is opening its tanker ownership business to outside investors through a corporate financing plan for newly launched Volare Shipping.[9] The company proposes raising approximately $500 million in a private placement before listing its shares on Euronext Growth Oslo.[9][16]

Volare starts with six very large crude carriers in operation and eight new vessels scheduled for delivery between 2026 and 2028.[16] Trafigura will remain the majority owner after the proposed listing and will commercially manage the fleet through its global shipping business.[16]

Trading is expected to begin around 5 October under the ticker VLCC, subject to exchange approval and successful completion of the placement.[16] Volare chief executive Alexandre Duff said the contemplated raise would fully fund the current newbuilding programme.[16] The company expects to own 14 ships with an average age of about three years once deliveries finish in October 2028.[16]

The new vessels are larger than standard tankers and have additional tank coatings and heating systems to carry a wider range of cargoes, according to Trafigura.[16] The group says it currently manages about 500 vessels, including around 250 oil tankers.[16] Volare creates a separate vehicle for outside investment in its owned crude carrier fleet while leaving commercial management with Trafigura.[9][16]
