TotalEnergies makes new discovery offshore Angola

This new discovery story centres on Acacia-5 in Block 17 off Angola. TotalEnergies found the oil in June and expects first production this quarter through a connection to the Pazflor FPSO, adding 6,000 barrels a day.

TotalEnergies operates Block 17 with a 38 percent interest. Equinor holds 22.16 percent, ExxonMobil 19 percent, Azule Energy 15.84 percent and Sonangol E&P 5 percent.

The company also signed agreements with Angola's ANPG for 40 percent operated interests in Blocks 17/25 and 32/21 in the Lower Congo Basin. ExxonMobil will hold 40 percent in each block and Sonangol E&P the remaining 20 percent.

The three month route from discovery to production relies on spare capacity at an existing FPSO rather than a new production facility. The newly awarded blocks are also close to six FPSOs already producing in Blocks 17 and 32, giving future discoveries a possible route into existing infrastructure.
