Taiwan's 1GW Hai Long Offshore Wind Farm Brings All Turbines Online

In a construction milestone for Taiwan's offshore wind industry, all 73 turbines at the 1 GW Hai Long project are now generating electricity.[5] Northland Power announced the installation milestone on 15 October, and Offshore Engineer reported it on 16 October.[5][7] Final permitting approvals remain expected in the first half of 2027.[5][7]

Northland owns 30.6% of the project, alongside Mitsui & Co. with 40% and Gentari International Renewables with 29.4%.[5][7] The wind farm lies approximately 45 to 70 kilometres off Changhua County in the Taiwan Strait.[5][7] Northland expects the project to generate enough electricity to supply more than one million Taiwanese households.[7]

A 30 year electricity offtake agreement supports the project's contracted revenues.[5][7] Northland says overall construction costs remain aligned with its original expectations and that completing turbine installation reduces the remaining construction risk.[7] Generation across the whole turbine fleet is a step toward completion, while the final approval process remains unfinished.[5][7]
