Subsea7 contracts Worley for Northern Lights' key subsea structures

In a new contract for Norway's Northern Lights expansion, Subsea7 has selected Worley Rosenberg to fabricate subsea structures and spools.[10][11] Worley announced the award on 14 October, followed by Offshore Energy's report on 15 October.[10][11]

Worley Rosenberg supplied comparable components for the project's first phase in 2023.[10][11] The new infrastructure will support the transport of captured industrial carbon dioxide for permanent storage beneath the North Sea seabed.[11] The expansion aims to raise annual transport and storage capacity from 1.5 million tonnes to more than 5 million tonnes by 2028.[11]

Northern Lights' first phase is already operating from the receiving terminal at Øygarden, outside Bergen, with its first carbon dioxide volumes stored in 2025.[10][11] The partners, Equinor, Shell and TotalEnergies, took the final investment decision for the second phase in March 2025.[10] This latest award concerns fabrication for that expansion, not the start of the first phase.[10][11]
