Oslo listed offshore engineering and services contractor Subsea7 has secured its first project award under a recently signed strategic alliance with Vår Energi, taking a contract for the Goliat gas export project in the Norwegian Barents Sea. Subsea7 values the award at between $150m and $300m and said work will begin immediately from its Stavanger office.
The scope covers engineering, procurement, construction and installation work for the infrastructure that will move gas from the Goliat field to the Hammerfest LNG plant on Melkøya. Subsea7 will install a 12.7 km, 10 inch uninsulated carbon steel pipeline together with the associated subsea infrastructure required to tie the export system into the existing Snøhvit pipeline network.
The development is part of a broader effort to maximise production from Goliat by linking it into existing export infrastructure rather than building standalone facilities. Project management and engineering work begin immediately, while offshore installation activities are scheduled for 2027 and 2028.
The award is the first deal to emerge from a strategic partnership agreement signed in March between Vår Energi, Subsea7 and subsea production specialist OneSubsea. The alliance was set up to bring contractors in earlier in the project cycle, improve execution and reduce development costs across future offshore work on the Norwegian Continental Shelf.
For the wider industry, the contract signals continued investment in Barents Sea gas at a time when European buyers are pushing for stable Norwegian LNG supply. It also reinforces the trend toward tieback developments and alliance style contracting that aim to squeeze more volume out of mature fields without the cost or schedule risk of greenfield projects.
