ANALYSIS: $14/mt Separates the Best and Worst Singapore Bunker Suppliers on the Cost of Doing Business, Fuelsure Data Shows
Bunker market economics vary beyond the quoted fuel price, according to a Ship & Bunker analysis published on 28 September using Fuelsure data from 15 hubs.[15] Among qualifying Singapore suppliers, estimated costs after a deal was fixed ranged from $0.42 to $14.44 per tonne over the latest 12 months.[15] The figures describe historical supplier performance, not a guaranteed charge on the next delivery.[15]
Fuelsure combines delivery quantity, usable energy, quality and service effects into a cost per tonne.[18] Its underlying analysis, dated 23 September, compares rolling annual performance and consecutive six month periods without naming suppliers.[18] It examines claims separately, so the routine cost estimates should not be read as a complete measure of every possible loss.[18]
Singapore's average rose from $2.93 per tonne in the earlier six month period to $5.42 in the latest period, according to the trade publication.[15] The Amsterdam, Rotterdam and Antwerp market moved in the opposite direction, from $10.13 to $7.90, while Fujairah fell from $5.05 to $3.36.[15] These are changes in estimated delivery costs beyond the agreed fuel price, not changes in the quoted price of fuel itself.[15]
Delays accounted for around 31 percent of claims but about 55 percent of claimed value in the data, Ship & Bunker reported.[15] Quantity issues were more frequent, at roughly 64 percent of claims with a positive value, but represented about 29 percent of claimed value.[15] For bunker buyers, the analysis distinguishes a cheap quotation from a supplier's delivery record, while cautioning that historical costs are expectations rather than promises.[15]
