Seatrium readies P 80 and P 82 FPSOs for Petrobras’ Búzios field

This project economics story centers on two large additions to Petrobras’ Búzios production system. Seatrium christened the P 80 and P 82 floating production, storage and offloading vessels in Singapore on August 27, and both are due to sail for the pre salt Santos basin within weeks of each other. They will become the ninth and tenth FPSOs serving the field.

Each vessel can produce 225,000 barrels of oil per day and process 12 million cubic metres of gas per day. Each also has about 250,000 barrels per day of water injection capacity and storage for roughly 2.5 million barrels of oil. Together, the units are expected to raise installed production capacity at Búzios by about 34 percent.

Seatrium fabricated more than 110,000 metric tons of topside modules across yards in Singapore, China and Brazil before completing integration and commissioning in Singapore. P 80 and P 82 are the second and third turnkey units delivered under the Petrobras P Series program. Seatrium is managing six Petrobras FPSO projects that are expected to provide about 1.3 million barrels per day of combined capacity once operating.

The new vessels include carbon capture and reinjection capabilities, along with energy recovery systems intended to reduce emissions from offshore production. Their next steps are the voyage to Brazil, offshore commissioning and startup, with production scheduled to begin in 2027. The added capacity will expand output from a field that Petrobras says already produces more than 1.2 million barrels per day.
