New offshore drilling contracts and extensions will commit Seadrill rigs across Indonesia, Malaysia, Angola and the US Gulf, the company announced on 12 October.[1][6] West Carina's approximately $420 million Indonesia award covers an estimated 880 firm days and includes a mobilization fee but excludes additional services.[6] The unnamed operator also has priced options for up to another 880 days, with the firm programme expected to begin in the first half of 2027.[6]
In Malaysia, the West Capella operator exercised its remaining priced options for 120 days, adding approximately $41 million in contract value.[6] A further 120 days of previously unpriced options add approximately $53 million, with both figures excluding additional services.[6] Seadrill now expects the rig to continue working through February 2028.[1][6]
Sonadrill, Seadrill's equally owned venture with a Sonangol affiliate, secured an extension for Sonangol Libongos offshore Angola.[1][6] Exercising the remaining priced options adds approximately three years and commits the rig through January 2030.[6] In the US Gulf, Kosmos awarded Sevan Louisiana a 25 day contract expected to start in November 2026.[1][6]
Seadrill says more than 85 percent of its available drillship days for 2027 are now contracted.[1][6] Chief executive Samir Ali said the West Carina award completed the company's objective of repricing three legacy dayrate contracts to current market levels.[1][6] The announcement distinguishes firm work from further options, while commencement dates and durations remain company expectations rather than completed operating milestones.[6]
