In a project economics move, Saipem and Jan De Nul signed a letter of intent with ExxonMobil Mozambique for preliminary work on the offshore part of Rovuma LNG Phase 1. The initial scope is worth about €11 million and covers engineering, procurement and technical services that will shape execution planning.
ExxonMobil Mozambique signed on behalf of Mozambique Rovuma Venture, which represents ENH, CNPC, Eni, KOGAS and XRG. A final engineering, procurement, construction and installation contract depends on a positive final investment decision and government and regulatory approvals expected in 2026.
The offshore development would route gas from Area 4 through 18 subsea wells, pipelines and manifolds to the planned onshore liquefaction plant. Rovuma LNG is designed for 18.6 million tonnes of annual LNG production.
The letter follows $1.1 billion of preinvestment contracts awarded by ExxonMobil last month for subsea production systems, large bore valves and offshore line pipe. That sequence moves contractor planning, subsea procurement and installation scheduling ahead while the partners prepare for a possible investment decision.
