In a weather driven disruption to marine fuel supply, Petrobras suspended bunker deliveries at Rio Grande after a storm hit the southern Brazilian city in the early hours of 21 September.[2] The resulting power outage stopped operations at the terminal where the company's bunker barges load.[1][2]
Petrobras told customers that winds exceeding 100 km/h had damaged local infrastructure, Bunker Index reported.[2] In its notice on 21 September, the company said it could not confirm whether deliveries would resume that day, the next day or after a longer recovery period.[2] Its team was monitoring conditions with the terminal before setting a restart timetable.[2]
The storm also disrupted wider port activity, according to a separate report carried by DatamarNews on 21 September and attributed to GZH.[5] That report cited Portos RS on damage at the Porto Novo terminal and the Rio Grande Bar Pilots on changes to at least five vessels' scheduled operations.[5] Two other ships were waiting to berth at the time of the report.[5]
Petrobras said it would update customers when it had a clearer view of terminal recovery and the resumption of deliveries.[2] The reports describe the suspension and its immediate effects, but do not establish a confirmed restart date.[1][2]
