Fugro Adds More Survey Work off Timor-Leste

The new awards expand the survey programme behind Timor-Leste's proposed gas pipeline projects, with Fugro securing geotechnical and metocean contracts from the Ministry of Petroleum and Mineral Resources.[32] They follow a geophysical survey contract announced in July and add work to the Greater Sunrise TLNG and Bayu-Undan Pipeline Highway developments.[28][32]

The proposed Greater Sunrise Gas Export Pipeline would connect the field to the planned TLNG development at Natarbora on Timor-Leste's south coast.[32] The separate Bayu-Undan Pipeline Highway would also run to Natarbora.[32] Fugro says the surveys will establish seabed and subsurface conditions along the proposed corridors to inform route selection and future engineering.[28]

Fugro plans to start the six month geotechnical campaign and the twelve month metocean campaign in the first quarter of 2027.[32] They would follow geophysical work scheduled for the third quarter of 2026.[32] The programme includes the Timor Trough, where water depths reach 3,000 metres.[32]

The company will use its Seafloor Drill and SeaScout 35 MKII Cone Penetration Testing systems to collect ground data.[32] Its Remote Operations Centre in Kuala Lumpur will support collaboration between offshore and onshore teams.[28] The awards concern survey work for proposed routes, rather than pipeline construction.[32]
