In the project economics bucket, Borkum Riffgrund 3 has entered commercial operation with 913 MW of capacity in the German North Sea. Ørsted and Nuveen Infrastructure own the wind farm, which now supplies power to the German grid.
The project sits about 72 kilometres offshore and uses 83 Siemens Gamesa turbines rated at 11 MW each. Turbine installation finished in January 2025, but the operating date moved beyond the original fourth quarter 2025 target.
Delays to the DolWin5 grid connection pushed back commissioning. The wind farm has no offshore substation, with its turbines connected through a 66 kV link to the DolWin epsilon converter platform operated by TenneT. The project first sent power to the grid on 3 December 2025.
Ørsted has secured corporate power purchase agreements covering 786 MW for periods ranging from 10 to 25 years. Amazon accounts for 350 MW, followed by BASF with 186 MW, Covestro and REWE Group with 100 MW each, and Google with 50 MW.
