This story falls in the project economics bucket. SBM Offshore has delivered key materials and major offshore equipment to Altamira for the Trion oil project, which lies 180 kilometers off Mexico and 30 kilometers south of the maritime border with the United States.
The shipment includes suction piles, chains, mooring components, and the disconnectable turret mooring buoy that will connect to the FSO Chalchi. The vessel is under construction and is designed to store about 950,000 barrels of crude while moored in water roughly 2,500 meters deep.
Trion carries an estimated initial capital investment of $7.2 billion, while total development costs could reach $10.4 billion over its full life. Woodside Energy operates the venture with a 60 percent interest, while Pemex holds the remaining 40 percent. SBM Offshore will operate the FSO under a 20 year lease and operate assignment with Woodside’s Mexican affiliate.
The equipment arrival clears a major logistics step before the offshore installation campaign. It also shows the scale of capital and marine infrastructure needed to bring an ultra deepwater Gulf of Mexico project into production.
